Ben Herrick

My name is Ben Herrick and I am currently pursuing my Ph.D. in Music Education at Louisiana State University. Prior to my move to Louisiana, I was the Director of Bands at Tiffin University in Tiffin, Ohio, at which my duties include Marching Band, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Music Theory, and Private Instruction. Prior to my assignment at Tiffin University I was the head marching band/assistant concert band director at the College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio, while also teaching music at a Pre-K through 8th grade Catholic school near Cleveland where I offered a variety of hands-on musical opportunities for the students, including world drumming, choir, ukulele, and music technology. In 2014 I completed a two-year Masters of Music Education program at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, where I worked closely with the UC Bearcat Marching and Concert Band programs and also taught Brass Methods class for undergraduate music education majors. Prior to my time in Cincinnati, I spent nine years as a public school band director at two separate schools in the Northwest Ohio area, teaching grades 5-12. I received my Bachelors Degree in Music Education from the University of Toledo and spent some time in the Ohio Air Force National Guard repairing F-16 tactical aircraft before starting my teaching career. Outside of teaching, I play trombone and am an avid performer and fan of jazz music, especially the traditional New Orleans style, which I have performed all around Ohio and in such places as New Orleans, Sacramento, Toronto, and Poznan Poland. I also enjoy composing and arranging music for various musical groups, including the Tiffin Dragon Marching Band, the Wooster Scot Marching Band, and the Cincinnati Bearcat Marching Band.
