Biography

Hello! My name is Clara, and I am a recent Northwestern University Bienen School of Music graduate. I received my Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance studying under Blair Milton, and am currently attending Loyola University Chicago for graduate school in Clinical Psychology. I hope to someday merge my two interests by delivering music therapy to adolescents and young adults, however, I am presently teaching to gain more experience mentoring musicians. I am a classically trained teacher who utilizes the Suzuki Method along with other supplemental music theory and sight-reading materials. I have six years of experience teaching children ages 7-14, however, am comfortable expanding the ages of my students to include those both younger and adult-age. I mandate both the diligent private practice of your instrument at home as well as regular lessons, during which I will instruct on technique, posture, performance practice, self-care, artistry, and musicianship. Given my psychology background, I also encourage fostering a mentoring relationship with my students, and conduct my lessons with respect, nurture, and fun in mind!I have been playing violin my entire life, starting around age 3. I grew up with the Suzuki Method, and attended numerous summer music festivals throughout my youth, including the Credo Opus One Chamber Music Camp at Oberlin Conservatory, the Northwestern High School Music Institute, the St. Olaf Summer Music Institute, and the Northwestern Summer Violin Institute. I have served as Concertmaster of the Dayton Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, Credo Opus One Orchestra, and Northwestern High School Music Institute Orchestra, and as Assistant Concertmaster of the Northwestern Chamber Orchestra and Northwestern Baroque Ensemble. I have additionally performed in chamber music groups at weddings, competitions, receptions, and other private and public events. I received 1st place in the Dayton Philharmonic Volunteer Association Collegiate Scholarship program in 2011, and an Honorable Mention in the Dayton Philharmonic Pierson Competition in 2009.*If you are interested in taking lessons with me, please contact me directly through email. I have a few lesson time slots posted on the online calendar, but I have much more availability.*
