   Biography

A native of Spring City, Pennsylvania. Amanda Mawson is currently a senior in the Music Education program at Kutztown University with a concentration in double bass and a minor in jazz. She started guitar at the age of nine, then began her bass studies with Louis Rieger, CEO of High Street Music and Arts. She now studies with renowned New York bassist Scott Lee and award-winning cellist Dr. Marie-Aline Cadieux. As eclectic player, she has played in Kutztown University Jazz Ensemble I and has sat second chair in the Kutztown University Orchestra since her first semester at the university. She has been involved with the Commercial Ensemble for the last three semesters. Beyond the university, Amanda is a member of Berks Sinfonietta, Gateau au Chocolat gypsy jazz group, a regular pit musician at Genesius Theater. She also performs in various other jazz combo and musical settings. In the summer of 2017, she was a cabin counselor at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, where she was an assistant for Jazz Ensemble Gold, played bass in Blue Lake Jazz Ensemble, and was a member of Blue Lake Festival Orchestra. This July, she was a counselor at Kutztown University's 2017 Chamber Music Festival. She has performed with notable players such as violinist David Kim, bassist Manuel Figueroa-Bolvaran, and trumpeter Daniel John Urness. Amanda has performed under the batons of Dr. Timothy Schwarz, Dr. Peter Isaacson, Dr. Kevin Kjos, Professor Daniel Neuenschwander, Dr. David McConnell, Dr. Salvador Brotons, Dr. Alexander Jimenez, and Tim Froncek. She has worked as a theory tutor at the University for the past two semesters.
