   Biography

My name is Laura Guyton. I am the wife of an amazingly talented singer and musician and mom to the most adorable five year old ever who is already proving he will be a singer as well! I am a 2006 graduate of Lee University in Cleveland, TN and I hold a Bachelor's degree in Music Education K-12 (vocal emphasis) and a minor in Church Music. My passion has always been teaching music and helping other musicians refine their gifts and talents. Before I came home to be a stay-at-home mom, I taught in the public school system for over 6 years. I have taught elementary school music where I daily taught general music to over thirty kids per class, directed the 5th grade chorus, and directed multiple performances and productions throughout the school year. I then moved on and became the head Choral Director at a middle school where I directed the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade concert choirs. In addition I was also director/vocal coach for our award winning 6th grade show choir, and our award winning advanced show choir made up of 7th and 8th graders. Both show choirs competed and traveled extensively through the school year and won multiple awards under my direction. I was also the vocal music director for the school musical. After teaching middle school, I became the head Choral Director at a local high school. I taught general music classes (including theory and history), directed the concert choir, and cappella jazz ensemble. In addition, I was also the director and vocal coach for our award-winning show choir made up of 9th-12th graders. This group competed and traveled extensively throughout the school year and won multiple awards under my direction. I also directed multiple performances for all ensembles throughout the school year. In addition to my time teaching inside the classroom, I have also taught private music lessons (voice and beginning piano) for over 10 years and owned and directed my own fine arts studio that offered lessons in music (both vocal and instrumental), drama, visual art, and media. I have been the director for an award-winning large youth choir, large a cappella ensemble, and small a cappella vocal ensemble for a local church. These groups competed at state level and international competitions and won multiple awards under my direction. Outside of teaching music, I love traveling, eating good food, seeing great musical performances, shopping, and relaxing with my family and friends.
